Drinking water improvements
This week
City Council Meeting
The City Council met on Monday with a few items on the regular agenda. The first item was the Interim Use Permit and rezoning for the Jacobs Plat - currently Blu Dot. That tenant will be leaving, and the property owner was asking for the permit to allow for outdoor storage. When this issue was before the Planning Commission, it generated a lot of discussion, and the Council received additional information on the fencing and screening plan. The plan was approved with a few modifications to the conditions allowing for the total height of the fencing to meet certain height requirements above ground level.
The property owner had also requested 24 hour operations at the site - asking for a condition to be removed that forbid outdoor operations between 10 pm and 7 am. However, given the potential for disruption in the outdoor space, the Council did not feel that was acceptable at this time. The tenant could potentially apply for an amendment in the future that would allow for extended hours of operation.
The other major item on the agenda was the Wellhouse 3 Water Treatment Plant expansion - awarding construction contracts and services. This project has been in the works for quite a while, and there is certainly more to come. However, this upgrade - along with the Wellhouse 4 upgrades that are nearing completion within the next few days - should provide some noticeable improvements to drinking water quality for most residents - especially during the winter months when water usage across the city is lower.
